Happy Thanksgiving

Greetings from the Minipawss Farm. I am sending this email out in case I don't survive the mountains of cooking and eating I need to endure for the next few days.

First of all, giving thanks...for all of you and your loved ones. For all my friends, old and new. For the days and days and days of non-stop rain here in Sequim, WA. For all the piles of autumn leaves, I get to gather for all my gardens. For the buckets of fresh apples, people drop off at my front door. Haha, and for the huge piles of well-rotted horse manure, I get to shovel from a neighboring farm for my roses (yummy.)

“I know there will be lots of pies. I also know that Pat will be eating pecan pie. I remember years ago mentioning to him that I couldn’t understand how anybody could love that pie, and he said, “good, more for me.”

This year, I have a young couple living with me. The husband is from Dallas, and the wife is from Honduras. It's been a wonderful learning experience. (We actually recovered from a couple of fiery fights and grew closer). They are really into the holidays. So here we go—Wednesday - turkey dinner, Gordon Ramsey style. Thursday - Cantonese roasted duck, Friday - homemade soup dumplings, Saturday - hot pot dinner, Sunday and the rest of November - leftovers. We did a lot of research on Youtube and online. The Cantonese roasted duck recipe is especially daunting, and the young couple has made interpretations in their own jargon - I can't repeat it in polite company. Let's say that we laugh our heads off every night about the weird processes in preparing a duck for roasting. Last night we watched Gordon Ramsey cook Christmas meals. We were oohing and ahhing - and added his tips to our shopping list. We got so full just watching him cook that I fell into a food coma along with my dog and cat. (Picture below.)

I know there will be lots of pies. I also know that Pat will be eating pecan pie. I remember years ago mentioning to him that I couldn't understand how anybody could love that pie, and he said, "good, more for me." I think pecan pie is very odd. Well, life is very ironic. My housemates ordered pecan pie from the best pie lady in town. (How am I going to handle this?) It's like this. Einstein and I were attacked by a German Shepherd a few years ago. So I am absolutely terrified of these GS's. Well, guess what? The farm is surrounded by people who own GS's! And every time they get new puppies, they get more GS's! So now, adding to my thankfulness list, I get to learn to live alongside these GS's and find ways not to be intimidated by them.

Have a great Thanksgiving.
