Winter Garden

The Winter Garden

Winter in Sequim 2024

I went out with my cat and dog in the morning.  It was cold.  My hot coffee quickly turned very lukewarm. My fingers were protesting inside my gloves.

It had been in the 30’s at night.  The grass was crunching underneath my feet.  The entire yard was frosted over.

So, you can imagine, I was amazed at the plants that were still flowering.

Granted, they were not as full and fluffy as in the warmer months.

But they were defying the odds during these dreary December days...

…refusing to stop blooming

Do these plants have special antifreeze in their veins?

Are they on a special mission to cheer up us poor humans?

I don’t know the answers.  But I’m just enjoying their happy faces.  I’m thanking them for giving me a cold morning cheer and for feeding the beautiful wild birds in my garden.
