The drive to Lake Cresent went through lush green mountains. There is always something so soothing when the road winds through tall evergreen trees and sparkling lakes and rivers.
My favorite spot on the way is this deep valley that has a little lake. I can just imagine living there one of these summers and floating lazily in a boat with a good book.
My friend and I walked with my dog, Hani along the level hiking path. It borders the north side of Lake Crescent.
It was early in the morning and the path had very few hikers on it. We paused along various picturesque spots to take in the sights and sounds and breathe in the cold, crisp lake air. All my sinus allergies seemed to go away.
Lake Crescent is easily my favorite lake. I came from California. Up to now, the only lakes I know of were only giant reservoirs surrounded by parched land. Here, this lake is surrounded by lush green and tall mountains. The lake is very deep. ???carved by glacier. If you look into the waters, you can see the rocks at the bottom of the lake shore.
Walking along the lake made me feel like I was transported back to prehistoric times. I could see dinosaurs walking next to me. Out there on the lake, I saw loch ness frolicking in the ice cold waters while ???prehistoric birds dip down for a quick bite of fish.
We arrived at the destination, The Devil’s Punchbowl. What can I say? Sparkling, crystal clear, ice cold? Oh to be young again and brave the cold for a plunge.
We came back via a slightly different route and walked through a very dark tunnel. It was nearing noon and the crowds were getting larger. We were glad to be done with the walk and hurried to our car to escape the crowds.
It was such a great hike that I definitely want to go back again and again.
